Come On Pilgrim!

When the day is warm and clear
Oh how I wish I was not here
Slaving to put one last verse
This rhyming character is a curse

So farewell to cruel Prospero
and Oedipus the tragic hero
Goodbye to Delia and Sykes
To pop quizzes and quickwrites

Goodbye to that Raisin in the sun,
Goodbye Art of lit, its been fun.

a Raisin in the Sun

Yes, I wrote "a Raisin in the Sun" , a story and a play about a black Chicago family. The time I am considering what the name is given to this play, I came up with many possibilities. It can be either a rising sun or a squeezed grape or something else. Anyway, the present title is the best one that combine both ideas and so I believe it will be a good one that stands for the voice of African Americans.

The rising sun is metaphor of describing the hope of African family. Walter is dying to own a liquor store to earn money, to be able to buy pearls to his wife. Beneatha want to become a doctor. Mama also want to fulfill her dream of having a fair and neat garden within a cool house to live in. They all have dreams and they all want to rise above. Though, Lindner, a representative of Clybourne Park Improvement Association ask them not to move in and dirty up the white neighborhood, Walter rejects this suggestion and this black family tries hard to adapt to whites and be a nice neighbor.

A squeezed grape is referring to "the takers and the tooken" theory from Walter. The smartest person is the one who knows how to take things away from other people and gain more benefits. The grape is juicy and the takers are the ones who squeeze the grape who take the tasty juice from grape. Walter's family was a grape, but it became a raisin instead because of the unacceptable from whites and the financial difficulties. This African-American family doesn't feel being a raisin is not as good as grape. They want to be a good raisin and knows there will be some more obstacles in the future.

the story of an hour

In the modern times, men have the right of dominance and are decision makers in the families. Mrs. Mallard repeated saying free, free, sole free, after get noticed about the death of her husband. Her husband apparently didn't give freedom to his wife and try to control her. It may be the cause of the unhappiness of their marriage and thus Mrs Mallard is not sure there is still love with her husband. In some situations, however, men are supposed to represent as speakers of the family members and protect their families.

Mr. Mallard first is described as died in the rail road disaster and Mrs Mallard is glad to accept this news privately. Nonetheless, it is too much joy for her, causing her to loose her life and lost a chance to see her husband who survived magically. It appears that this small family cannot accommodate two of them, just because they cannot get along with one another. I suggest the end could be altered to that the wife is not died from the joys, but she still alive and see Mr Mallard back home. She finally compromises and makes efforts to accept Brently Mallard and try to avoid contradictions.

Fiesta

I think it is terrible the way that papi treats his family. His image to his children are a monster. They can't look him in the eye or eat before a car ride. I beleive that the male should be the leader of the house. However, papi carries his image as an asshole. The wife needs to leave the husband and take her children. As my mother would always tell me, at the end of the day family is all you have. Good thing my mother isn't married to this man.

Fiesta!

Why this family is sure strange. The father is not so nice to his wife nor his kids. I don't know what I would become of myself if my father acted in such a way as this man. The kids are somewhat strange though. I love that fact that his brother found his true love, just like I have found my true love. I hope they live happily ever after. but I'm not sure if there is more than one girl he is persuing for marriage. Very well I must go now Father is calling me....

To my dear and loving Shakespeare....With love, Dark Lady!

If ever two were one, then surely we are not
If ever man were loved by me, then fair youth
If ever I were happy in a man
Thou isn't him
I detest thy love and adore his
My love for thee is nonexistent
Thy love is such I can no way repay
Then while we live, I shall love another
That when we live no more, Thou may be gone from us

Shall "The Dark Lady" be compared to a summer's day?

Thee hath compared thy young man lover to a summer's day
But I have been compareth to everything opposite from gay
For I am also thy love but am viewed as Dark
For this unfair reason I bark
If he's a summer's day
Then I shall get my way
I will turn him away from thee
Then me and him shall be free

IMMIGRANTS AND MORALITY

I wonder if Americans who judge others based on their heritage, nationality, or status of residency have any idea of the damage they are causing to others. I am most certainly positive that those who judge are very much insecure with themselves and their morals. I certainly do not like to be judged and like to keep the peace between people. If people do not like the way I describe stories or act then I feel very ashamed and do not wished to be blamed for any harm doing. I do not like to upset people and judging Immigrants is a horrible thing. Immigrants work really hard in order to keep their lives in balance and on track just like the rest of the USA citizens. I do feel bad if my words have upset anyone but I would take the blame if what I do write causes controversies, that is not my intent. As working under the great Lord himself, I believe that everyone is created equal and should be treated equally.

Everyday Use II

I can relate very much to there situation. I know all about siblins' and their fighting. My two don't stop bickering ever. I think Dee deserted her family cuz she was embarrassed of their situation, n' i don't agree with that kind of behavior. My family has had many problems and we stuck together, and now were livin' happy in this new home. I agree with Mama, i wouldn't have wanted Dee to have the blanket either, her sister deserved it more. I think that family's story n' my own are very relatable in many ways...

Immigrants

When I first read Immigrants I did not see it in a very positive light. It actually was depressing. The baby is too young to make its own decisions. I thought, maybe the baby would want to be bilingual.. it would help later in life. Perhaps it would embrace it's uniqueness fondly. After a while I realized the parents had decided that this would be an easier route for the child to grow up as "fine American" boy or girl. They want the child to fit in and being different can be viewed negatively.
I thought I, Too, Sing America was an uplifting story showing that you can be American but not forget where you came from and you should celebrate your uniqueness.
Maybe if the parents in Immigrants had read Julia Alvarez's story they would have made a different decision on how they would raise their baby.

Passage to America: New Immigrants tell their story

This was a very interesting reading! It opened my eyes to the struggles many people have of living in America and trying to fit in by becoming Americanized but ALSO keeping their own values, beliefs and customs from their home country. It must be a huge struggle. It sounds like it makes it hard to fit in at school. I never thought of all of those different issues! Immigrants are constantly being pushed back and forth..act American..but keep your heritage. You move to America for freedom and opportunity yet you aren't completely free because you are constantly in a push pull of how to act, feel and what to be.

Happy Endings

I think Mary got what she deserved. I mean what was she thinking? Was she crazy? I mean she must have been otherwise she would not think that she can possibly manage these two fouls at the same time. One big advice for you Mary next time you think on doing stuff like that, you’ll need to gain some experience beforehand. These moves require knowledge, and advice from other “pro” like Me. I have mastered this world honey. I know how to keep up with men. I married five times, so you all know that I’m speaking from experience. All Mary out there needs to search advice from me otherwise you all will end up like this Mary.

Everyday Uses

This story is quite confusing for me. I am the only child in this lonely island, I never had a mother growing up. So I have to look at Mama as if she was my Father. This poor Mother seems quite torn between her two children. For they are both so uniquely different. Which is why I feel she handle the quilt situation as best as she could. Maybe she could have cut the quilt in half and both parties are happy....I'm only a teenager so I don't have all the questions. My father's book and his ariel would of solved the problem for sure. What do you think? Was Mamma fair in giving that perticular quilt to Maggie...What message was she trying to teach to Dee? Remember there were other quilts that Grandma Dee made that Mamma could of given Maggie?

The Lady Alice Walker

Having read this Lady's tale of Mama, Madge and Dee,
I must praise her wit for she writes quite nicely

Such powerful women she describes it is only fitting
That this is one tale I wont be heard quitting

Truly I say it pleases my ears and heart as well
to find a woman with a good story to tell.

The Lady Walker speaks of real life, dirt floors, screen doors
Of troubling children, quilts, guilt and back aching chores

The Lady of Bath of was self absorbed and really such a bore
For such maladies of ladies this Walker is the cure.

Happy Endings

Margaret Atwood Happy Endings (C) Mary should know better not to play with love!
and we shouldn't feel sorry for john either, john got a wife he should know better.
on page 55 (c) 3th paragraph "John tells mary how important she is to him, but of course he can't leave his wife because a commitment is a commitment."
now i m not marry yet, so i don't know if i got this right.
if your marry and you make a commitment, don't that mean you stay with the one you marry or am i getting this wrong?

Margaret Atwood's fictional peice a "Happy Ending" shows what point of view for you as the reader? Does it even show one?

Mama's Plant

I care for my plant like I care for my family. It's my hope and my everythin'. My family, so capable of growin' is held down by all the strives black folks face, and just like my plant cuz there's no light in here. Just like there's no light in this house for us either, no hope (which is why i bought that house). I think it's like a metaphor or somethin' like that. I would never let my plant die cuz I see it as a representation of my family's welfare. If i give up on one thing that's not getting what it deserves- then I give up on everythin'. I can't wait to move to where there's life, and light, so we can all grow.

A raisin in the Sun

The first act of this play has got me confused. Why wouldn't Ruth and Mama want Walter to take a risk and invest some of that money into a liquor store? My father was a very successful business man and he didn't get that way by being frugal with his money. If Ruth decides to keep the baby that's on the way then Walter is going to have to find a way to convince Mama to let him borrow some money.

Act II

Oh Walter, you have gotten yourself into some trouble I see. Family is the most important thing in life, how could you just throw away your Mama's money like that? She asked one thing of you, and that was to put away money for Beneatha's schooling, and you couldn't do that. It's no wonder why your family is getting sick of you.
Mama has got her hands full now with the new "Welcoming Committee". Don't let them white folks scare you out of your new home and new life. You are just as good as them, if not better. Neighborhoods shouldn't be divided by color. Those white folks will realize it soon enough.

Walter Lee

Oh Walter, what a lost soul he was huh? I mean I thought he was gonna abandon his family and his baby on the way for money. He says "money is life." Child, what has life come to if money is the only answer. Luckily I think the story of my family proves otherwise. After many mistakes, especially my Bennie loosing her school money, and Ruth thinkin' bout gettin rid of that precious baby, Brother became a man and helped all us Youngers, not just himself. I think he finally learned money comes and goes but you can't just rid yourself of love and family. And God of course. He has taught us that love and kindness is life, and He is always right. I was wondering if anyone thinks Walter should have not moved us in, and that the risk wasn't worth takin'?
Well child, I think it was. I have a garden and Travis has his own room, until the baby comes that is. Them white folks be lookin at us like were criminals for wantin' a nicer house. We smile at them anyways, hopin' someday all this will change, if not for us then for Travis and the new baby.
What do you all think of Brother's decision?

A raisin in the Sun act III

Beneatha, now you make sure you marry who you want to marry. Trust me, if you marry George just for the money you will regret it. Marry Asagi and become a doctor in Africa. Follow your dreams.

A Window of Opportunity

The one small window in the Younger's house has a significance beyond its physical appearance. It could be seen as a "window of opportunity" and the sunshine beaming through is happiness. This little window is the only source of natural lighting in the whole house. It is no wonder that Mama's plant is struggling to thrive and survive. At the end of the play I was relieved when Walter took charge and decided the family would move to the new house. This is one of the rare grown up actions he has taken in the whole play and it was nice to see him mature. The new house has a whole lot of sunlight. Happiness and new opportunities will surely embrace the Younger family at their new dwelling.

In praisen of the grene haet

I would like to have ac-drenc in the win-hus hwider Walter be-sittan

To hiere the catt with the conked head gliwap on his blaed-horn

I could blowe with min baggepipe and go singan and hoppian all about

For I am a janglere and a goliardeys who is moost of synne and harlotries

And should they sende me ut for being a druncen soot, no hearm done

I would cume and breke their dore at a rennyng with min heed!

A Raisin in the sun act 3

I got what i wanted. Momma is going to give me 3,000 dollars to help me start my business plan. My stubborn and ignorant personalty got me what i wanted. We are moving to a new neighborhood and my business plan is in the works. Later that week i come to find out that my business partner stole my money and took off. What are we going to do now? Again, i find myself left with nothing as me and my family are unhappy again.

A Raisin in the Sun act2

It would be awesome if momma would give me all the cash for my business plan. I understand she wants to put my sister through law school and buy a new home. However, my business play could make our family rich. My ignorance is leading into arguments with my mom. I am stubborn and don't care about anyone else but myself

A Deserving Death

i enjoyed the story very much. i think the husband got what he deserved in the end. Delia seemed liked a woman who believed in her self and didn't backed off from what she thoguht was right. She looked like a woman who didn't want him to die but at the same time wanted him to go away. All in all her husband got what he deserved in the end. A good story in the end

Are You Ready?

I just want to make sure you guys, my friends, are ready to be awed by yours truely.

Sweatin to the oldies

What a riveting piece of literature Zora Neal Hurston has written with her short story "Sweat". The setting, the tempo of the story, the in depth focus on dialogue and the characters accents are all brilliant. From the first few paragraphs you are hooked and can't stop reading. You can't help but loathe Sykes, every bit of his character is deplorable. Delia is tortured by this brute even though she slaves away to give the both of them food and a worthwhile life. I have a few questions to pose to anyone out there willing to respond. Do you think Sykes put the snake in the basket simply to further scare Delia into leaving the house? Or was it to kill her to make room in the house he had no claim to, for he and his woman. Were you as happy as i was when Sykes finally had his run in with the snake? The last question is to those who have read Their Eyes Were Watching God by Hurston. Were you kind of dissapointed a bit like I was were her lack of creativity from story to story? It seems like thats the same crew on the store porch, the same owner (even is name Joe, like Joe Starks). There is even a character walking in front of the store with livestock, this time its delia and a horse rather than the town idiot and his mule.

A Married States

I think that katherine Philips lost her mine before writting this poem " A Married State". I don't know what to make of her for thinking that woman should remain virgin. was she trying to contradict the Lord for creating Adam and Eve. I mean what did she thought about women creation? Did she ever beleived that women were created to pleasure men. I beleive she was one of the craziest woman to beleive that women should not enjoy the real pleasure of life which is sex. I mean this is one of the biggest reason why God take special care to create Eve. God gave women permission to multiply the earth. How would women multiply the earth if they don't get married, and give birth. I think her worries should have been about finding a man wh would want to do her such favor, because she was to old to be a virgin herself. she missed out a lot of good things in her life. by the way whoever listened to her and did what she said will be leading apes in hell. Because women were put on this earth for two reason. Get married so they don't die virgin, and give birth. Any woman who did not do those two things and return to the Lord "Virgin" will... do what..."leading apes in hell.

Because I could not stop for Death

Why would someone be comfortable with dieing? I understand its natural, but for me, i have to much to live for. My cruality could lead me to gods gates of heaven but its not comforting to agree with that. Death can't be as great as you make it. A wifeless man has a bright future ahead of me. Therefore, i must stop for death. I

Content In My Own Company

Internet is so convenient! It makes it especially easy for me to live my life of seclusion. I don't have to argue with my friend Higginson anymore about revisions I just type and suddenly it's there for all to see. Very close to being published now that is freedom. Check out this lovely video for a peek into my life:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQYzN2KTWVw&feature=related
This is one of your classmates thoughts on my Poem.... what do you think?

Because I could not stop for Death:
I think by death having stopped that the death was unexpected. It goes on later to say that she had to put away her work/play even. I imagine it being set aside like being interrupted.
I thought of the carriage as possibly a coffin since it only fits her and Immortality(an endless existence)
When it discusses passing the school and the children I thought this was in reference to youth and then it mentions "in the ring" and it reminded me of a circle shape possibly in reference to circle of life. However I wasn't sure of the fields and the setting sun....except the sun is setting as a signal of the end of day/life.
When they pause at the house swelling of the ground this sounded like a grave to me the way a tombstone would swell from the ground surrounded in dirt.

Lady Mary Wroth

If I were to advise the Lady Mary Wroth,
I'd say "pack your quills and shove off"

Sooner would I a new wert upon my nose,
Than to suffer more o' her purple prose

She fancies it her lovely line and verse,
Me thinks her lovers groan and curse.

Her sweet mush rise flowery and high,
So thickly done no lover could get by.

Give me true love, pour me a drink,
Spare me sonnets so sweet they stink

Pulley

the pulley tells the tale about how God made man. It tells us that God poured all his blessing on man when he made him which includes wisdom, honor, beauty, pleasure and strength. God did not gave everything to man, infact he kept the 'rest' at the bottom. God knew that if he gave everything to man the instead of praising God, man would start praising God's gifts. Pulley is a mechanical device used for lifting heavy loads. In this poem herbert connected the lifting of pulley to man by saying that God lifted few of his blessings from man and didn't blessed him with everything.

The Tempest is More Like A Shower

I'm all for a peaceful resolution in life but literature is different. The Tempest failed to deliver on its name sake. Sure there was literally a storm in the beginning but is that the only reason it’s called that? I find that superficial. The fact that Prospero forgives everyone in the end might make him the better man but it also makes him a boring man. Now don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the play but I’m just saying the end was lack luster and disappointing when you think of it as the end to the last play Shakespeare would write.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Prospero thinks he "saved" me because I was stuck in a tree and he freed me. This is true but I am still a slave! I just have a new owner. Prospero. I ask him to release me but he won't and he gets mad when I ask. He wants me to continue doing services for him. This angers me! I deserve to be free. I want to be free from his services and all of his reprimanding. It is degrading and unfair. By disguising myself for Prospero, I hope he will come around and free me soon.

Teampest

why did Prospero let Caliban, trinculo and stephano go?
i thought they wanted to kill Prospero

Thursday, March 4, 2010

I think Miranda did not know the reality of the real world. Her youth had nothing to do with her knowing that woman are put on earth to fulfill men's need. she wanted Ferdinand to marry her before she let him break her virgin-knot, because her father wanted her to do so. Virgin- knot please, what's that suppose to mean. me I have no idea when I lost my virginity. In all honesty I think mine was breaken at birth. she let such meaningless word stopped her from enjoying her life. her worries should have been about finding a man who can please well, not that idiotic idea. After all she should'nt listened to her foolish father, who wasted people's time by faking a storm. I mean couldn't she tells that Prospero wasn't in his right mine.

The Tempest

My father is so overprotective of me. He treats me like a child. Sometimes he goes off into these stories about what, I don't know. Which causes me to fall asleep. I saw this man from the shipwreck. He looks cute and he looks noble. He seems to have a kind and caring heart. However, my overprotected father seems to think differently. When will my father realize I'm growing up and I'm not daddy's little girl anymore. I hope he treats this handsome stranger nice........

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

The Tempest

I think that Prospero did an incredible job by creating the tempest to shipwreck them ( the nobles). His love for Miranda is unquestionably strong by causing her to sleep so she did not live that magical illusion he created.

Late Post (no pun)

I write for the peoples entertainment. The beauty of writing is that is it can be acted.
When you act you are producing words that equal something of meaning. We express ourselves with words that have significant meaning. If I want I can tell you something, I can write it, I can speak it, you can read it and listen. I may want to communicate with you through a mask. If i write for pleasure or from my heart to express my love for a woman.

You are able to write also, it may not be for the pleasure of our audince but a qualification for your profession. You write for a purpose. Everyone writes. We produce something words mean 123 or abc to equal feelings and understanding.

Though listen to my writes and you feel and emotion. Do you like my words, the same words you know of. I can write you may write better then me but I write with a purpose to produce.... a sonnet for Tuesday.

Fate; Karma and Efforts

When I wrote "A Risen in the Sun", I did not contain any discriminatory description on the black woman - Mama (Lena) . She acts like some of her domain, as if she is really inferior to whites. She believes the fate that she as well as her own people are considered to belongs to the lower class. However, Joseph, the husband of Beneatha who is the daughter of Lena suggests them to make an effort to change the negative impression emerged among whites and try to be themselves but not imitating what whites' appearance and their deeds. Being not stubborn on believing so-called fate finally made a difference in their lives.

As described in the Nun' priest tale, Pertelote allusively laughs at Chauntecleer that trusted the prediction in his dream as a warning from god and the so-called fate. The false believing in Pertelote caused Chauntecleer get caught by the fox. Eventually, he successfully eacaped from the month of fox, because Karma works. It is the destiny of fox.

It is contradictory that the characters in my plot believing themselves can make a change on their fate that blacks seems to be inferior than whites. Nonetheless, the animals in the tale rescued themselves by believing destiny, the karma.

I don't want to discuss the existence of God here and I respect every one has its own belief. However, sometimes it is tricky and difficult to explain what the cause of an issue, what is right or wrong. In fact it all depends on what your philosophy is, what your religion is and what world value you possess.

Nun's Priest Tale and the Tempest

Chaunticleer is similar to me. He is a possession just like I am a possession to Prospero. I do not think it is fair to be treated like a possession. Prospero is my master just like the woman is to Chaunticleer. I do whatever Prospero wants.

The Nun's Priest's Tale and morals

It is clear that I have told the readers what my feelings and thoughts are about dreams and morality. But I cannot help but wonder whether I should have made my tale longer than I did. All the other tales seem to be quite long and very rich in their words. Despite all of my thoughts about how I wrote my tale, I think that my tale has the most depth to it. I talk about dreams holding a very big motive in people's lives'. It is the people in the story that do not take their dreams very seriously. The story of the two men who lodged seperately and then one of them was murdered, was a very common thing to have occured any place or time. The cock at the end of the story grow throughout the tale always because of his wives, and specifically his wife, Pertelote. She helped him through his toughest times. Women will always have the upper hand in marriage and life whether men want to agree with it or not.

Dark Lady & Alison Comparison

Oh Alison thy friend! How we both compare
Tis our men aren't enough so we must be shared
Our beauty is rich with much power
and we seek for another for we aren't cowards
How great it is to be in bed with someone less of age
For being with an old man feels like being trapped in a cage
Oh the joy I feel while being with "Fair Youth"!
Life feels amazing and I understand you

The Miller told a beatiful tale. However I'm confused why are all the men in love with the carpenter's wife. My father told me that a man should love his wife and his wife should always stick to her husband no matter what. So why is she sleeping with Nicholas? Nicholas is not her husband. I guess I should ask my father. He knows everything.

The Miller Quits the Prologue

I feel it fair to speak mine word
of what Chaucer told thee first
Now for he is a courtly sober sort
and he hath spared thee the worst
I was traveling with the pilgrims too
those folk of mixed classes
and to tell you true I saw a few
horses that were rode by talking asses

The Knight so true and so flushed
for a lover's tale he did wet himself
His heart swooned, his armor rust
The Pardoner and his sinful wealth
Selling heaven as he's going to hell
The Lady Bath her ripe lusty health
her husbands dead, screwed too well
The creaky rude Reeve who telleth
a lying yarn about a man with a mill

Though a drunkard I be
I see more clearly
than thee who hold dearly
courtly ways and pious acts
Chaucer giveth the verse,
the Miller giveth the facts.
